Whether you like it (Food pictures) love it (Puppy pictures) or hate it (First world algorithm problems) Instagram has become a powerful platform that shapes the perception of your brand to the public. You could even argue that Instagram has become as, if not more powerful than your brand’s website. This begs the question, are you utilizing Instagram to its full potential? Here are five tips to help keep your IG game strong:
Utilize your Bio
Your bio is your opportunity to introduce yourself or your brand to your audience. While it only offers a limited amount of characters, be sure to utilize the real estate. Instagram recently created linked hashtags and profile mentions in bios. Be sure to tag your brand and promote that hashtag, as users can now follow hashtags driving further engagement.
Quality over Quantity
Gone are the days of posting multiple times a day to get your message across to your following. Instead, take the time to create a well-crafted post using high-quality imagery that is eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing. For example here at Thirsty Agency, we like to create a narrative with our posts. Whether its a 3 or 6 grid, we are able to drip out posts throughout the week that combine and tell a story. We have done it multiple times and have noticed that our engagement rates have grown because of it. With fewer posts going out across the board, users will be more likely to see and engage with your posts. That being said, the eyes of your audience aren’t always on the standard post anymore…

The story functionality on Instagram has fully evolved and grown into a very powerful feature. As Snapchat is slowly declining, the audience has effectively jumped ship and all eyes are now on IG stories. Imagine all of those fun filters and functionality from Snapchat on steroids, that’s IG stories. These bits of snack-sized content are drawing eyes away from standard posts and are incredibly intuitive and easy to craft. Stories allow you to engage with your following in real time, allowing them an inside look at the day-to-day. Let your stories tell a story, showcasing creativity and personality, while simultaneously keeping your audience engaged.
Highlight your Highlights
So you took the time to craft out an awesome story, and poof, it disappears…Not anymore. These stories can now live in your highlights section. Highlights are one of the most beneficial tools on Instagram. You have the ability to create individual content buckets where all of your stories can live for your audience to revisit or experience for the first time. If your brand sells a variety of products, all of the stories pertaining to them can live in their own highlight slot. If you want to highlight the culture of your office, boom! That gets it own highlight slot. Be sure to utilize a high-quality image to serve as the icon in each highlight to keep things clean and uniform. The possibilities are endless and I have a feeling this is only the surface of the full potential of highlights.
Keep it Relevant:
Remember when you were 21 and you thought it would be cool to post a picture of you playing Edward 40 Hands to your followers? Well, brands grow and mature too. Utilize the archive feature and clean up and declutter your feed. This allows for an up to date and clean feed giving the audience the exact message you want them to receive.
